July meeting

By mjohnson on 7/15/2014

Remember that the July meeting is this Saturday, July 19th at 1:00 p.m.  Yes, it is earlier than in the past.  No, it's not too early for beer.   Hope to see you there.  I'll have several pilsners plus maybe a surprise or two in the BOM cooler.  Please be aware that Ray is also open for business during that time and we need to stay out of the way as much as possible so he can sell lots of stuff.

Style of the month correction

By mjohnson on 6/11/2014

While reading the latest newsletter, I noticed that the KGB calendar needs to be corrected.  The style for August is not Barley Wine.  It will be wheat beers as in the past.  We did Barley Wines a couple of months ago and I cannot imagine doing that style on the hottest, most humid month of the year.  Plus, I have not had the opportunity to re-stock the KGB vault with new Barley Wines yet.

A Big Batch of KGB Win

By Comrade Mark on 5/20/2014

The KGB raked in a whole lot of win at the 19th Annual Big Batch Brew Bash, held yesterday at that place.  You know the place I mean.  We took first through third places and kept the Heavy Hitters award all to ourselves, yet again.  The Ken Rich Memorial Award went to Duane Vaughn (no club affiliation).

There were 96 total entries, and the prizes were awarded as follows:

1st, Donald Sajda, KGB
2nd, Karl & Ann Marie Pierce, KGB
3rd, John Dawson, KGB
Honorable Mention, Mark Schoppe, Austin Zealots
Honorable Mention, Corey Martin, Austin Zealots

Congratulations to all of the winners, and a hearty thank you! to all y'all who helped make the 19th Annual Big Batch Brew Bash the big success that it was.

Tasting contest this Saturday

By mjohnson on 2/19/2014
All right, Comrades. If you come to the meeting this Saturday at GS Jake's house you had better get your taste buds primed for a contest. We will have a blind taste test. No, that does NOT mean you taste beer until you go blind. I will have a "mystery beer" that people will taste and then have to guess the style and if you consider yourself a craft beer expert you can also guess the brewery. Czar Robert and I will be the only ones who know the true identity of the mystery beer and of course we will not be eligible for the prize. All entries will be put into a hat and one winner will be chosen. What prize you ask? Since Don is a stingy dog and will not donate his Porsche for such a worthwhile cause we will have to substitute something of almost equal value. Or maybe 1/100th of the value - it does not matter since you still get to drink the beer. So come to the meeting and give it your best shot! Since I am not a politician I cannot be bribed (although you may try your best with vintage beers) and will not divulge the secret identity of the "mystery beer". Good luck!
